Trendy Charities

It seems nowadays that people get involved in charities/organizations because it's the "trendy" thing to do. I know Bono is pretty much the ultimate super star, and he is totally using his fame for the good of mankind--BUT...I hate to say this....but I think a lot of people got involved just because he did. Now, the question is - is this wrong motivation? Yes. But, if the end result is something positive is it wrong? Would this be considered manipulation? I'm not sure. I'm not bashing Bono, I just think it's interesting how so many people get involved in trendy charities. Motivation vs. manipulation is the question. Right now the super trendy NGO's to be involved in are One, (RED), Youth for Poverty, Invisible Children, etc. Now, I admit, I have gotten involved in some of these just to show support, BUT - am I just doing that to be a part of the trend? I would like to say that my intentions are all pure and a part of my passion to help other people, but it's quite possible that I took an interest because"everyone else was doing it." BUT, my desire to be actually involved has grown. So, does the end result matter if I got there by the wrong motivations? Not sure the answer to this one...I'm sure millions of people have developed passion for specific organizations based on some trendy-fame-based initital interest. I guess it only matters if someone is actually willing to act on it, not just talking the talk...
