Work it...

So I work for a non-profit called Open Doors. Basically what we do is serve people around the world who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. In less than a month will mark my 1 yr. anniversary being employed here. This makes me think about things I've learned the past year...and then all the things I've learned in the past two years.

Two years ago I was in a completely different stage of life; it's crazy to think about how much of my life has drastically changed.

Here are some key things I've learned...
- You can't put 100% faith in anybody
- When starting a new job...make yourself indispensable asap
- Procrastinating only leads to one thing: procrastinating
- If I don't rest...my body will force itself to rest
- I am a total geek at heart
- I have the absolute best and most fun relationships with the people in my family, and am so thankful for that
- Having too high expectations of people causes unneeded stress, and overall is pretty stupid
- We're all bound to be humbled in one way or another
- No matter how hard you try, some people will just never see your point of view
- I am very consistent at being inconsistent

Working in a place out of my comfort zone has been stretching and challenging; but I love challenges and feel lazy when I'm not taking on a challenge outside my normal routine.

Even right now at work I'm working on projects in unchartered territory for the company, so I'm essentially trying to make myself an expert in areas that I've never worked in. Ex. podcasting and blogging (I know I blog, but not a "real" "work" blog), writing youth curriculum, film screenings, and other social media venues, weird events, etc.

If I were ever put in a job that didn't require any creativity I think I would die. jk. But seriously, I'm the type of person that needs to be passionate about what I do and needs to be creative and have an avenue to express it.

For a while after I left my old job I was a little lost...wasn't sure where I was headed and wasn't sure how I could feel fulfilled serving in ministry outside a position at a church. Luckily, God is utilizing me in a mighty and unique way -- which is pretty cool. I can now understand why things played out the way they did, and even though I didn't want to see it a year ago, I finally get it. Which is pretty cool.

Your second to last point intrigues me: "no matter how hard you try, some people will just never see your point of view." i had a college professor tell me once that my job was not to convince her that my point of view was right (it was a persuasive writing course). My job was to lay forth a compelling argument.

It is also important to keep perspective. I'm sure your family helps with that. It is JUST a job. You're good at it because you care, but it will bring you down if you care too much! my .02 worth. :)
