The Life of P(en)
I have a cup of pens in my room. I grabbed one this morning, looked at it and read on the side "Chapman Hospice." As I looked this at the pen a few questions crossed my mind:
1. How long have I had this pen?
2. Who first owned this pen?
3. How old is this pen?
4. How did this pen get from a Hospice to my room???
I thought about it, and here is my guestimation of the trail of this pen's life:
- Chapman Hospice office managers distribute pens to employees as encouragement incentive.
- Nurse A uses her pen to write on a patient's chart.
- Nurse A puts pen in pocket. Then gets fired.
- Nurse A gets a job at CHOC in Orange.
- Nurse A (wearing the same uniform) uses encouragement incentive pen to fill out new hire paperwork.
- Nurse A gets trained by Nurse B (who happens to be my sister). Nurse A uses pen to write on a patient's chart. Leaves pen at Nurse's station.
- Nurse B sees pen and uses to fasten hair in a bun.
- Nurse B goes to Mom's house for supper.
- Nurse B sits on couch, pen falls out of hair.
- Sister A (me) sits on couch, finds pen, uses to write birthday card for brother.
- Sister A brings pen to room to finish card because brother walks in room unexpectantely.
- Sister A puts pen in big cup. This brings us to the present.
What a life!
